… for more than a billion reasons, it seems like.
One of the things I’ll probably talk about the most is the public transportation system here in London, along with the incompetency that seems to run with it at times. Don’t get me wrong, I know these people are doing their jobs, and when things happen on a tube line or whatever, it’s most likely not their fault.. but jeeze!
So this morning, on the news, they said the District Line, the line I take to and from work, was suspended. Fine… I waited around, fought with N, and when I finally left, the line was back up with delays. I get to Wimbledon to get on the tube, and it’s suspended again. According to one Transport for London (tfl) employee, the first was for a signal failure and the second was for a broken rail. Another said it’s been suspended since last night. And yet another said both instances were signal failures.
Southwest Train Service was honoring Oyster cards and tube tickets to London Waterloo, which could have gotten me to work a bit quicker…but I would have had to buy a Zone 1 ticket from Waterloo to work which would have cost me extra regardless of the line suspension–so naturally I wasn’t keen on that idea. So I decided to take the bus into work.
I had to ride bus 1 til the end of the line, then stand on a bridge over the Thames, freezing my toosh off for nearly 15 minutes waiting for bus 2. It hardly sounds like a trial, but trust me, on a morning where I was already fed up with the day, I was less than impressed.
So I’m at the office now, still freezing nearly an hour later, and trying to figure out whether we’re all going to the pub nearby or one wayyyy out of the way which I may not go to as it’ll take me nearly 3 hours to get home. Hm.
