Best Book:

After Dark – Haruki Murakami

Earlier this month, I could have sworn to you that it was going to be White Teeth, but Murakami came in at the last second and blew me and the other books away.  After Dark is one of the most amazing, creepy, interesting, voyeuristic books I’ve ever read.  It reads like a movie script at times, with the narrator personally talking to us and telling us what we’re seeing and how we’re looking at it through our ‘lens’.

This is the first work that I’ve read by Murakami, but it most definitely won’t be the last!

Worst Book:

We Need To Talk About Kevin – Lionel Shriver

Pretentious piece of drivel.  That’s all I’ll say.  Supposedly a bombshell of a book?  Nah.  Just a piece of crap.

Book In Progress:

Nick Hornby – How To Be Good

So far, How To Be Good is alright.  It’s a true Hornby book–witty and funny without making you feel stupid.  Fantastic!

In other news:

I’ve given up the extra coffees–it’s now 1 per day.  Do you know how hard that’s been??  I’ve drank my weight in green tea since I’ve started this…. GREEN TEA, people!

Drama at work seems to have subsided for the time being.

It has rained for nearly 2 weeks straight and there’s no real sign of it stopping.  Yes, the sun is streaming in my window as we speak, but it’s supposed to start pouring any second now.  This is normal, in England… sun one second and torrential downpours the next.

The in-laws are coming for dinner tonight and I need to finish cleaning.  Gah!

  1. No! You should stick with We Need To Talk About Kevin. I know it’s painfully slow to get going but is one of the most unique books I’ve read ever. Trust me, you’ll care about them all eventually!

Leave some love!
