June Book Wrap Up

Books Finished:  4  I’ve not read nearly as many this month… not sure why… I’ve been really tired lately and have taken to sleeping on the bus instead of reading and showering instead of taking a long bath.  Maybe that’s why?  Gotta get it in gear!

  1. The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ – Phillip Pullman
  2. Super Sad True Love Story – Gary Shteyngart
  3. The Last Song – Nicholas Sparks
  4. High on Arrival – Mackenzie Phillips
Books Abandoned:  1
  1. The Suspicions of Mr Whicher:  A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective – Kate Summerscale
Books in Progress:  1
  1. Sister – Rosamund Lupton
Best Book:  Super Sad True Love Story
I can’t tell you enough how much I loved this book.  I’m a sucker for a novel about a dystopian society any day but this one was the best yet!  It was interesting the way Shteyngart masked our current society and ramped it up a couple of notches to show what we’d be like on the edge of social and economical ruin.  Fab book, and I’ll definitely be looking to read more of Shteyngart’s books!
Worst Book:  The Suspicions of Mr Whicher
I think this was the worst book purely because I had hoped for so much more out of it.  I loved the first hundred pages or so–packed with information about the murder as well as about detectives in the Victorian era.  But eventually I got to a point where I just couldn’t slog through the rest of it.  I made it halfway through the book, wikipedia’d the murder case to see whodunnit and promptly found something else to read.

Leave some love!
